Hamster care

Living being needs care and affection whether animals, plants or humans. This is the most primary need of every creature which has to be fulfilled. Likewise hamster which is a small creature of the rodent family demands proper nourishment and healthy environment.

Now when it comes to taking care of a hamster the first thing to be kept in mind is that what kind of an atmosphere is needed by a hamster. Hamsters are desert creatures found in dry and rocky areas in places like Pakistan, Mongolia and Syria. This means that hamsters should be provided with a dry and warm shelter. They should not be kept in enclosed aquariums in which the moisture gets locked.

Hamsters should be given a proper diet. The availability of fresh water is very important for the hamster. Hamster is omnivorous which means that it eats both vegetable and meat. Variety in food like other human beings will be appreciated by the hamsters. They can be given apple pieces, slices of carrots and crackers. They can also be given green vegetables but they should not be overfed with greens otherwise it will lead to the illness called ‘wet tail’ which if untreated can prove to be fatal. As we know that hamsters are hoarders, so they should not be overfed.

Hamster’s cage should be provided with pipes so that it can exercise and should be spacious enough for the hamster to move around. One should avoid waking the hamster during the daylight hours as it will make the pet confused and irritable.

If these points are well taken care of then one is surely eligible to keep hamster as a pet.
